Wow. I just finished watching The Golden Compass and I got ta tell ya, if I hadn't read the book first I probably wouldn't have cared an iota for the film. I'm gonna have to look up the person or persons resonsible for adapting this film and do to them what that 'concert promoter' did to that shopkeeper and his son in Wayne's World 2... but not really. I don't know... I guess to me the movie was the Magesterium. It just felt like all the ideas that where presented with contrast in the novel were being forced on me from the start as an absolute. I never felt while reading the novel that I was being told what to think but that I was being encouraged to think. A theme that winds its way seemlessly and gradually through the book. Plus, the film... the story was so messed up. I guess, had I not read the book, I wouldn't have noticed in the least but it was everywhere. It didn't seem to have any clear sense of direction. Yeah, I was lucky. I read the book. I knew where the story should start (the epilouge in the film was unecessary by the way. It would have been loads better if the viewer was eased into the world gradually) and where it should end (it didn't end there) but the plot seemed absent, the climax was nonexistent. Well, I guess the later would... well, scratch that, both these things may have (assuming that monkeys could breathe under water) existed to the viewer if the ending of the film paralled that of the novel. I hated that the film story kept straying from Lyra. Pullman chose to view the story through the eyes of a child for a reason. That reasom seemed abandoned here....

Well, I best get going. I could sit here and complain about this film til morning light but I've loads to tomorrow...
Buh bye. :)

Awesome-ness! :) I was surprisingly disappointed when I missed it last week. Ellen Page and Wilco were on there last Saturday. Boo hoo... :( ... Oh, well. It's only television, right?

Was kinda bored and thought I do this just to stave off madness! They'll be semi easy... sure. ;)

1. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Fill in the film title once it's guessed.
5. NO googling/using IMDB search functions.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. What do you know of my heart? What do you know of anything but your own suffering. For weeks, Marianne, I've had this pressing on me without being at liberty to speak of it to a single creature. It was forced on me by the very person whose prior claims ruined all my hope. I have endured her exultations again and again whilst knowing myself to be divided from Edward forever. Believe me, Marianne, had I not been bound to silence I could have provided proof enough of a broken heart, even for you.
2. You're getting older, and you'll see that life isn't like your fairy tales. The world is a cruel place. And you'll learn that, even if it hurts.
3. I've got an idea. Why don't we just spread chocolate all over the floor and let Chunk eat his way through?
4. During high school, I played junior hockey and still hold two league records: most time spent in the penalty box; and I was the only guy to ever take off his skate and try to stab somebody.
5. Do you know the most surprising thing about divorce? It doesn't actually kill you. Like a bullet to the heart or a head-on car wreck. It should. When someone you've promised to cherish till death do you part says "I never loved you," it should kill you instantly. You shouldn't have to wake up day after day after that, trying to understand how in the world you didn't know. The light just never went on, you know. I must have known, of course, but I was too scared to see the truth. Then fear just makes you so stupid.
6. You should've gone to China, you know, 'cause I hear they give away babies like free iPods. You know, they pretty much just put them in those t-shirt guns and shoot them out at sporting events.
7. If the O.J. trial taught us anything, it taught us that, in America, you can cut somebody's head off and still be innocent as long as you have enough money. Well Kansas your mom only shoot a guy.
8. Now the whole world's gonna know that you died scratching my balls!
9. With one week to go before the pageant, I was finishing my outfit, rehearsing my talent, brushing up on current events, and running 18 miles a day on about 400 calories. I was ready.
10. He is the sweetest guy. Have you ever looked into his eyes? It was like the first time I heard the Beatles.
11. Hey Phil, if you're gonna spew, spew into this.
12. I've staked my crew's life on the theory that you're a person, actual and whole, and if I'm wrong, you'd best shoot me now... Or, we could talk some more.
13. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
14. I don't belong here, I feel it, don't you think I feel it. I can't do any of these vile things and I wouldn't WANT to. Oh, my life is like death. My children are the spawn of hell, and you're the devil. Oh God.
15. What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?
Edit: Man I Copied and Pasted these directly From IMBD and I have to say, though I'm not the best at spelling or punctuataion, some of the spelling and punctuation is... well, not good. Take four for example. The colon us used appropriately enough but what's the semi colon all about? Anywho hope anyone who happens upon this has a great day! :)
I think the impending weather (the whole seven centimeters of snow the area will probably receive) has kept them at bay. Which, while I think on it, is rather strange actually. Usually everyone's in a complete panic over the situation; buying there weight in eggs, bread, milk and Absolute Vodka to avoid starvation during the few hours they have to wait for the snow plow to go by. I hated those bad weather days when I worked at the supermarket. You had all sorts of 'death wish' type people coming in during the blizzard to get supplies so they could survive their day indoors. 'Twas madness. I wanted badly to tell them they shouldn't be driving in such weather, that they were idiots but I held my tongue. Oh, well I'm sure they'll all come in Tuesday when the roads are salted (if it actually snows here. Its supposed to be south of this area... I'm told.) and riddled with black ice.
Well best be off. Actually have got loads of work to do. I know. Halloween is eons away and last year I didn't think about costumes until the middle of August. Anywho, since I'm not a man... or at least to my knowledge i'm not... I was trying to think up interesting names for Quail man's female counterpart; so, when people ask eight months from now what the blazes I am, I can say, "I'm [Quailman's female counterparts persona here], the female counterpart to Quailman from the 90s cartoon... Loads of work to do. Loads of sickies to check in. (I wonder if they appreciate me using the term 'sickies' to describe them? Probably not. Oh, well they probably won't read this.) It's been moderately interesting. I begrudgingly worked an extra day and plan to the next week as well. I worked a double shift on Friday because of the dwindling help in my department and hope not to do so again anytime soon. It was so futile. I've wanted to go the way of Britney Spears in the break down department all week. You know the whole shave your head, beat people with umbrella freak out type thing but have (very gladly) restrained myself.
Well best be off.
Hi... guess I should apologize for never ever entering anything on this blog. My life isn't all that exciting and so I have no excuse (save the all to unexciting life) to never blog. I have been, however, occasionally typing bits of nonsense on my myspace blog. I haven't had a chance to do that recently though because I have dial up and my phone line has been a bit... well uncooperative since that ice storm at the beginning of December (Whoa! I about typed July! That would have been a crazy sentence... That is since I don't live south of the equator, anyway.) and so venturing there may be, you'll find, a waste of time.
Anywho, my Christmas holiday was Ok. Alaina, my niece, actually had fun ripping paper off of presents. She's kind of fun now that she's one; walking around, doing interesting things like eating strange things off the floor and dancing along with the music on the television. I didn't mind her when was first born but she was far less interesting then than she is now. ;) Her favorite present was a baby doll that my grandma got her. Once she had that in her hands,she kind of lost interest in everything else. It was kinda funny... but, sadly (this is selfish), I had to watch my sister Amber and her husband open the present I got her. Oh well, it was far less fun being clothes and bath puppets; so, I'll forgive her that.
I did receive some interesting presents, though. My favorite being a one hundredth anniversary edition of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. One of my Secret Santa's (Kelly) at work gave it to me and she was so excited to do so that I thought maybe I'd gotten a gag gift,like a lump of coal or something. That feeling of fear and anticipation made the gift all the more exciting. It is the coolest book though. My sister Tiffany gave me a Jack Skellington Head knocker(?). (It's kind of like a bobble-head but made of porcelain) and a Jack Skellingtonsoup/coffee mug that I'll never use for fear of ruining it. Tres coolio. I got a ton of neat things... :)
Also in December I started to read The Golden Compass (Northern LIghts) mostly because I really wanted to see the film but not before I read the book. I always have that kind of silly response when I find that a film I want to see is actually adapted from a novel that came way before. I say silly because stupidly I thought the movie would do well domestically and stupidly I thought the movie would be shown more that a week at the theatre nearest to me. Sadly, however, the Catholic League won and people in the USA decided that they'd rather have someone think for them than think for themselves (and also, the fact that the books aren't that well known in the states could be a factor but... Catholic League, I'm gonna blame them!) and I haven't seen the film yet. The book I thought was brilliant though!
To Be Continued... I actually have to do some work now (that's where I am!)...
